Derek Jeter Joins the 3000 Hit Club
Derek Jeter got his 3,000th career hit Saturday, July 9th with a home run against the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium. The team captain, 37, became the first Yankee to reach the milestone and the 28th to do so in major league baseball. Jeter went 5 for 5 in the game that day, including the game winning single in the 8th. The Yankees won the game 5-4 to make the celebration even better. Jeter was greeted at home plate with hugs and high-fives from Yankees teammates, who were joined by teammates from the bullpen. The celebration lasted nearly five minutes, and even Rays players stepped onto the field to clap and show their appreciation of Jeter's accomplishment. Jeter is joined by one other player, Wade Boggs, to reach the accomplishment with a HR. Derek was the first Yankee to reach 3000 hits. Derek Jeter made history on July 9th and he got to do it in his home stadium with all his biggest fans watching.
